Who can apply
- A full-time CRICOS-registered course and a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) for every course in your package.
- An approved English test result, unless you are exempt.
- Enough money for travel, 12 months of course fees and 12 months of living costs, with a clear source.
- Genuine Student answers in English (150 words each) showing why you chose the course and how it helps your future, backed by documents.
- Health insurance (OSHC), health examinations, good character and the Australian Values Statement (18 and over).
Money you need
- Living costs: AUD 29,710 for 12 months (AUD 10,394 for a partner and AUD 4,449 for each child, only if a family exemption applies).
- Course fees: the first 12 months of fees, minus anything already paid. Example: AUD 50,000 for a 3-year course means AUD 16,666.
- Travel: AUD 2,000 from Bangladesh. School-age children also need at least AUD 13,502 a year for school.
- Income option: instead of savings, parents or a partner can show personal income of at least AUD 87,856 in the last 12 months (AUD 102,500 with family), using official tax assessments. Bank statements and employer letters are not accepted for this.
- Show the source: transaction history and regular income that explain how the savings built up. A one-day bank balance certificate is not enough. Sponsors need proof of relationship and their ID.
- Loans: the loan terms and security. Proof the loan has been paid out is the strongest evidence.
Step by step
Before you apply
Accept your offer (read the fees and refund terms first), pay the deposit and get your CoE. Book health exams early and check your passport is valid.
Gather your documents
Use the official Document Checklist Tool with your passport country and university. Translate non-English documents and scan everything in colour. No certification is needed.
Apply for the visa
Create an ImmiAccount, attach your documents (up to 60) and pay the visa fee. Apply from outside Australia.
After you apply
Give biometrics within 14 days if asked, complete health exams, answer requests quickly and keep your CoE valid. Do not book flights yet.
Visa outcome
A grant letter shows your conditions and expiry date. If refused, the letter explains why and the fee is not refunded.

Work and after graduation

- Give your university your address within 7 days of arriving, keep attending and keep your health cover active.
- The Student visa cannot be extended. To keep studying, you apply for a new visa, usually from outside Australia.
- After graduating, eligible students can apply for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) to live and work in Australia.
Common mistakes
- Taking an online or at-home English test. Only tests at a test centre are accepted.
- Showing a one-day bank balance certificate instead of savings history.
- Copied Genuine Student answers that do not match your documents.
- Not disclosing a previous visa refusal from any country.
- Planning to bring a partner or children without a family exemption.
