Some universities and visa authorities interview students before an offer or a visa. For the UK, the visa credibility interview checks that you’re a genuine student. Good preparation makes a big difference.
What they want to know
- Why this course? How it connects to your past studies or work. - Why this university? Specific reasons: modules, teaching, facilities, location. - Why this country? A real comparison with other options you considered. - Your career plan: the job you want, the type of employer, and a realistic timeline. - Your finances: who is paying, and where the money comes from. - Your course details: length, start date, fees, accommodation and key modules.
How to prepare
- Know your course page well. Be able to explain at least three modules in your own words. - Research alternatives. Compare two or three universities in each country you considered, with real facts. - Check your facts. Officers verify claims against official websites. - Practise out loud with a friend or counsellor, then record yourself. - Keep your documents ready: offer letter, CAS or CoE, financial documents and your SOP.
On the day
- Test your internet, camera and microphone if it’s online. - Answer the question asked, briefly and clearly. It’s fine to pause and think. - Speak naturally. Memorised answers sound scripted, and officers notice. - Be honest. If you don’t know something, say so rather than guessing.
